Brookings urges stronger built environment workforce
Original: Defining and strengthening the built environment workforce
The Brookings Institution has published analysis calling for a clearer definition and stronger support of the built environment workforce, the workers who plan, build and maintain homes, infrastructure and public spaces. The piece argues that these workers are essential to meeting housing and climate goals but are often overlooked in policy, and it outlines steps to better train, recruit and sustain them.
Why now: Policymakers are increasingly focused on construction and infrastructure labour shortages tied to housing and climate agendas.
