Indonesia has formally asked Russia to stop recruiting Indonesian citizens to fight in its war against Ukraine. The request follows reports that Indonesians have been enlisted, in some cases through misleading offers of work. It highlights growing concern in Southeast Asia about foreign nationals being drawn into the conflict and puts diplomatic pressure on Moscow over the practice.

Why now: New reporting that Indonesia has intervened diplomatically is drawing attention to the recruitment of its citizens for the war in Ukraine.
