Japan urges citizens to prepare for next mega-disaster
Original: preparedness
Japan's disaster management agency is urging citizens to make concrete preparations for the next major catastrophe, including stockpiling water, food and emergency supplies and knowing evacuation routes. The country, which sits on multiple active fault lines and is frequently hit by earthquakes and tsunamis, has been reminded of its vulnerability by recent large quakes, and officials are pushing households to act before disaster strikes rather than after.
Why now: Concern over Japan's readiness for a major earthquake or other mega-disaster is being widely discussed after the agency's public call for citizens to prepare.
