Tolkien parody voices fears of market gatekeepers
Original: "One thing to rule them all and in the darkness help them fall... and keep them there, behind the wall." # saying # writ
A reworked line from Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings' — 'one thing to rule them all... and keep them there, behind the wall' — is being shared as a satirical commentary on concentration of power. The parody tags point at markets, commerce, AI, government and media gatekeepers, suggesting the author sees one dominant force keeping competitors and citizens 'behind the wall'. No specific company or policy is named, so the target remains open to interpretation.
Why now: It riffs on a famous cultural line to satirise current concerns about monopoly power and gatekeeping in tech, markets and media.
