Former Epic developer says Steam can never be replaced
Original: Valve "played capitalism so well they broke it" and now Steam can't be replaced
A former Epic Games developer argues that Valve has dominated PC game distribution so thoroughly that Steam is effectively impossible to displace, saying the market dynamics are broken and "I don't think this is fixable." The comments argue Valve's pricing, feature ecosystem and store lock-in have entrenched its position so deeply that competitors cannot realistically catch up. The remarks are drawing attention to ongoing debate over monopoly power in PC gaming storefronts.
Why now: The claim that Valve has made Steam irreplaceable reignites debate over store competition and market dominance in PC gaming.
