Toba Aquarium's sea otter Kira off exhibit due to poor health

Original: ラッコ

Kira, the 18-year-old female sea otter at Toba Aquarium in Mie Prefecture, has been taken off public display and livestreams after showing signs of poor health. The aquarium, the only facility in Japan keeping sea otters, asked visitors to watch over her warmly and said updates on her condition will be posted on its official website and X account.

Why now: She is the only sea otter in captivity in Japan, so her condition is of wide public concern.
