Original: Sudan military gives initial approval for Bashir medical travel, lawyer says
Sudan's military has given initial approval for ousted former ruler Omar al-Bashir to travel abroad for medical treatment, according to his lawyer. Bashir, who was toppled in 2019, has been held in Sudan facing charges related to his nearly three-decade rule. The move would mark a significant step for the former president, and details on final clearance and destination remain unclear.
Why now: Bashir's potential departure from Sudan would be a major development in the country's ongoing political transition and conflict.
