Reports say Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is working with senior US figures to persuade Donald Trump to approve a quick but extensive air campaign against Iran. Critics describe the effort as warmongering and a potential war of aggression, amid fears of a wider Middle East conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran.

Why now: Fears that the US could be drawn into a direct military strike on Iran are driving intense debate about war and escalation.
