Six German federal states have jointly launched an open-source education platform based on Nextcloud, according to a Deutschlandfunk report. The move is being discussed as a notable step toward digital sovereignty in public education, shifting school infrastructure away from proprietary vendors toward self-hosted, freely licensed software.

Why now: Public-sector adoption of open-source software is a hot topic, and a multi-state education platform is a significant example.
