Hurricanes raise banner, then fall to Panthers in overtime

Original: Hurricanes raise banner, lose opener to Panthers in OT

The Carolina Hurricanes raised their banner ahead of their season opener but lost to the Florida Panthers in overtime. The night was meant to be a celebration, yet the division rivals spoiled it, with Florida edging the game after regulation. The result stings given the two teams' recent playoff history and the festive pre-game ceremony in Raleigh.

Why now: The Hurricanes' home opener doubled as a banner ceremony, and losing that game to a bitter rival drew immediate attention.
