Xi Jinping to skip BRICS summit in Brazil, state dinner cited
Original: BREAKING: Chinese president Xi Jinping says he will not attend BRICS summit in Brazil due to state dinner hosted by Braz
Reports say Chinese President Xi Jinping will not attend the BRICS summit in Brazil, with the reason given as a scheduling clash involving a Brazilian state dinner hosted for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The claim is circulating widely and drawing attention because of the optics of China and India at the same event, but official confirmation from Beijing or Brasília has not been cited in the reports.
Why now: The reported absence of China's leader from a major BRICS gathering, tied to a dinner for India's Modi, is politically sensitive amid China-India rivalry
