Qwen4 lineup names four variants, open weights unconfirmed
Original: Qwen4: 4 Variants Named, 0 Open Weights Confirmed [2026]
Alibaba's Qwen team is reportedly preparing Qwen4 with four named model variants, according to a tech news report, but none of the model weights have been confirmed as openly released. That marks a shift in expectation for a series historically known for publishing open weights, and developers are waiting to see whether any Qwen4 versions will be downloadable for self-hosting.
Why now: The Qwen series is widely used by open-source AI developers, so uncertainty over whether the weights will be released is a major concern.
