Katamari Damacy-style game built on the Met's collection
Original: Katamari Damacy but it's The Met collection
A web project lets players roll up artworks from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection in the style of the video game Katamari Damacy, gathering paintings and objects into an ever-growing ball. It uses the museum's openly available collection data and images. The playful mashup of a beloved game classic with a major art institution's archive is drawing amused attention and praise for its creative use of open museum resources.
Why now: The whimsical combination of a nostalgic video game with the Met's open-access art collection is delighting people online.
