Blue Mining Bee Photographed on Mustard Flower
Original: #fotovorschlag 'Gewürze' und #Bienstag Eine Senf-Blauschillersandbiene auf... Senf. A mining bee (Andrena agilissima) on
Nature photographers are sharing images of Andrena agilissima, a striking mining bee with an iridescent blue-black sheen, pictured feeding on a white mustard flower. The post playfully ties into photo prompt tags for 'spices' and bee day, noting there is no good English equivalent for its German name, and suggesting 'iridescent blue mustard sand bee' as a translation.
Why now: The bee's unusual metallic colouring and the wordplay linking it to mustard make the photo shareable among nature enthusiasts.
