Three supermassive black holes found in single distant galaxy
Original: Posting cool # space # facts until the Atlas Rush # Kickstarter : Three's company: Astronomers at the Max Planck Institu
Astronomers at the Max Planck Institute have discovered three actively feeding supermassive black holes inside a single galaxy located more than 12.5 billion light-years away. Two of the three are on a collision course, separated by just 620 light-years. The finding sheds light on how supermassive black holes grow and merge in the early universe.
Why now: The rare discovery of three feeding supermassive black holes in one distant galaxy is a striking astronomical result drawing attention.
