Police arrested more than 300 people at a protest in support of the banned group Palestine Action outside the US embassy in London. The mass detentions are drawing attention to the UK's decision to proscribe Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation, and to the question of whether supporting the group at demonstrations should be a criminal offence. Critics argue the arrests criminalise political expression, while police maintain they are enforcing the law.
Why now: The unusually large number of arrests at a single protest over a banned organisation is reigniting debate about the UK's terrorism proscription of Palestine Action.
