Fake nuclear alert phones in two countries, no panic
Original: Phones in two countries lit up with a terrifying alert. Nobody fell for it
Mobile phones in two countries received an emergency alert warning of a nuclear threat, a message described as terrifying. The alert turned out to be false, and recipients recognised it as such, with no one taken in by the warning. Authorities have not commented on how the alert was issued or whether an investigation is under way.
Why now: A nuclear-capable emergency alert sent to phones in two countries is inherently alarming and raises questions about how such a warning could be issued in error.
