Old Polluting Jet Engines Are Being Scavenged to Power Data Centers

Original: Old, Polluting Jet Engines Are Being Scavenged to Power Data Centers

Retired, high-emission jet engines are being pulled from aircraft boneyards and refurbished as generators to meet the surging electricity demands of AI data centers. The report highlights a paradox: companies marketing themselves as climate-conscious are relying on some of the dirtiest power sources available while waiting for grid capacity and cleaner solutions to catch up.

Why now: It exposes a stark contradiction between the tech industry's climate pledges and its urgent, short-term energy needs driven by the AI boom.
