UK cuts aid to Commonwealth countries despite warm words at Chogm
Original: UK cuts aid to Commonwealth countries despite warm words at Chogm summit https://www. theguardian.com/world/2026/nov /03
The UK is reducing development aid to Commonwealth countries even as it voiced strong commitments to the partnership at the Chogm summit in 2026. The move has drawn attention to the gap between Britain's rhetoric about supporting the Commonwealth and its actual spending decisions, raising questions about how member states will respond to the cuts.
Why now: The contrast between the UK's friendly messaging at the Commonwealth summit and simultaneous aid cuts is drawing criticism and debate.
