SLAC researchers find first proof of altermagnetism
Original: SLAC researchers find proof of altermagnetism, pull the wool over their own eyes https:// www6.slac.stanford.edu/news/20
Researchers at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory report direct experimental proof of altermagnetism, a newly recognized magnetic phase distinct from conventional ferromagnetism and antiferromagnetism. The finding, announced by the lab, confirms a predicted class of materials whose magnetic arrangements could matter for future electronics and spintronics. Physicists are sharing the result as a notable step in magnetism research.
Why now: A major US physics lab has announced the first direct proof of a newly theorized magnetic phase.
