Google will cut off search for schools that reject AI
Original: Google will turn off search for schools that reject AI
Google reportedly plans to disable its search services for schools that refuse to adopt its artificial intelligence tools, according to a New York Times report. The move would tie a widely used everyday service to AI acceptance in education, prompting debate about coercion, vendor dependence and how far tech companies can push schools into adopting generative AI in classrooms.
Why now: The report raises concerns that Google is leveraging its near-monopoly on search to force AI adoption in schools.
