Russia struck a critical electricity substation supplying the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant in western Ukraine, in what Ukrainian officials call a threat to nuclear safety across Europe. The attack risks disrupting power to the plant, where reliable external electricity is essential for cooling reactors and preventing a radiological incident. The strike is seen as part of Russia's continued campaign against Ukrainian energy infrastructure as the war enters another winter.
Why now: Attacks on nuclear plant infrastructure raise fears of a nuclear safety incident in Europe.
