NASA astronauts vote from space in US elections

Original: estados unidos elecciones

US elections are drawing wide attention after NASA confirmed that astronauts aboard the International Space Station cast their ballots from orbit. Astronauts have been able to vote from space since 1997 through encrypted electronic ballots transmitted to mission control and forwarded to election officials. The detail has become a popular shareable fact as Americans head to the polls.

Why now: US Election Day is under way, and the astronauts-in-space voting story is a shareable human-interest angle drawing attention to it.
