A Flydubai plane travelling from Dubai to Israel was diverted to Saudi Arabia after the crew received an emergency alert, according to Al Jazeera. The unscheduled landing in a country that until recently had no ties with Israel drew attention amid heightened regional tensions and scrutiny of air travel routes across the Gulf. Details on the nature of the alert and the passengers' condition were not immediately clear.
Why now: A Gulf carrier flight between Dubai and Israel making an emergency diversion to Saudi Arabia is unusual given the region's sensitive politics and current tensions.
