Google to cut search access for schools rejecting AI
Original: Google will cut off search access for students at schools that reject AI
Google says it will block search access for students at schools that refuse to adopt its AI tools, according to reports from AP News and other outlets. The policy, if enforced as described, would tie a core search service to AI adoption, prompting debate about whether companies should pressure schools into using generative AI products.
Why now: A major tech company tying an essential service like search to AI adoption raises concerns about coercion in education.
