Five Democratic Socialists elected to US House in historic night

Original: 5 DSA candidates are elected to the House in a historic night for their movement

Five candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America have won seats in the US House of Representatives, in what the group describes as a historic result for the democratic socialist movement. The wins mark the largest DSA delegation in the chamber to date and signal growing mainstream traction for left-wing politics within the Democratic Party.

Why now: The size of the DSA's House delegation is a record for the movement, prompting debate over the left's influence in Congress.
