Six German federal states are moving to Nextcloud, according to an announcement by the company about gaining sovereign collaboration tools for schools. The migration means schools in those states will replace Microsoft SharePoint with a German open-source alternative, part of a wider push for digital sovereignty in public administration and education.

Why now: It is seen as good news for digital sovereignty advocates amid ongoing debate about European public sector dependence on Microsoft products.
