Republicans aim for state legislative supermajorities in key races
Original: GOP state supermajority races
State legislative races are drawing attention as Republicans push for veto-proof supermajorities in several statehouses. Supermajorities would let GOP lawmakers override Democratic governors' vetoes and reshape policy on issues like taxes, education and voting rules without compromise. Observers are watching whether down-ballot momentum translates intoexpanded Republican control of state governments.
Why now: Statehouse supermajority contests could lock in Republican policy control regardless of governorships, making them a live political fight.
