India halts P-8 Poseidon purchase over Trump tariffs
Original: India has suspended the purchase of American P-8 Poseidon anti-submarine patrol aircraft due to tariffs imposed by Trump
India has suspended its purchase of American P-8 Poseidon anti-submarine patrol aircraft, a decision attributed to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. The move marks an escalation in trade tensions between Washington and New Delhi, with defence procurement now caught up in the dispute. The P-8 is a key maritime surveillance asset, so any pause in acquisition has drawn attention given its role in Indian naval operations in the Indian Ocean.
Why now: Ongoing US-India trade tensions under Trump's tariffs are now affecting defence deals, making this a notable escalation.
