Alaska ballot measure to repeal new election system trails
Original: Ballot Measure 2, repeal of Alaska’s election system, trails with many votes uncounted
Ballot Measure 2 in Alaska, which would repeal the state's open-primary and ranked-choice voting system, is trailing in early returns, with many votes still uncounted. Supporters of the repeal had argued the 2020 system is confusing; opponents want to keep the system that helped elect moderate candidates. The outcome remains uncertain as officials continue tallying ballots.
Why now: Election results are coming in and the outcome of a high-profile vote on Alaska's voting system is still undecided.
