EU's NGI initiative rebrands as Open Internet Stack
Original: # NGI becomes Open Internet Stack # OIS ๐ Since 2018, NGI has funded 1,500+ # FOSS projects, including Mastodon itself ๐
The EU's Next Generation Internet initiative, which has funded more than 1,500 free and open-source software projects since 2018, is rebranding as the Open Internet Stack (OIS). The programme says it backed notable projects including the decentralised social network Mastodon, and that OIS will continue this work supporting open source, digital commons and digital sovereignty in Europe.
Why now: The rebrand was just announced, and the programme's role in funding widely used open-source projects like Mastodon draws attention from the tech community.
