Original: 正力松太郎賞

SoftBank Hawks manager Kubo Yasuhiro has received the Matsutaro Shoriki Award, given for major contributions to Japanese baseball, for the second consecutive year. He said the honour reflected that the team was able to push forward with new challenges. The award, named after baseball pioneer and media figure Matsutaro Shoriki, is one of the most recognisable honours in Japanese baseball each season.

Why now: The announcement of this year's Matsutaro Shoriki Award and Kubo's rare back-to-back win is drawing attention in Japanese sports media.
