US Space Force declares far side of the Moon a warfighting domain
Original: 🛰️ US Space Force Declares Far Side of the Moon a "Warfighting Domain," Weighs Launch of Five Military Lunar Satellites
The US Space Force has described the far side of the Moon and cislunar space as a potential warfighting domain, and is weighing the launch of five military lunar satellites. The move signals growing American interest in securing positions beyond Earth orbit, and is drawing criticism from those who see it as militarising a region long treated as a scientific and cooperative frontier.
Why now: Framing the Moon's far side as a military domain marks a striking escalation in the militarisation of space, prompting debate about a new lunar arms race.
