Monmouth County flips Democratic as GOP margin narrows in Ocean

Original: Monmouth flips blue, Ocean GOP edge shrinks in historic midterms

New Jersey's Monmouth County voted Democratic in the midterm elections, a shift for a historically Republican-leaning area, while the GOP's advantage in neighboring Ocean County shrank. The results are being read as part of a broader realignment in New Jersey's shore-region politics during an election cycle described as historic for how much ground Republicans lost.

Why now: The county-level election results mark a notable political shift in two traditionally Republican strongholds in New Jersey.
