Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has announced that the UK is restarting its refugee resettlement programme, with Gazans and Afghan women to be prioritised. The announcement has drawn criticism from some commentators, who argue she did not make clear that Afghan women accepted under the scheme may also bring their husbands and sons with them, prompting debate over the scheme's scope and who qualifies.

Why now: The restart of the resettlement programme and its prioritisation criteria are politically contentious, drawing criticism over family provisions.
