The Guardian's opinion section is framing the 2026 US midterm elections as a 'historic beatdown', arguing that American voters have taken back their country in a sharp rebuke to Donald Trump. The piece, tagged around Republicans, Democrats, Texas, women and gender, suggests the results represent a decisive rejection of Trump-aligned Republicans and a major victory for Democrats and voters concerned with women's issues.
Why now: The 2026 US midterm election results are fresh and are being read as a major political setback for Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
