McIlroy: LIV Golf wanted to destroy European Tour
Original: McIlroy: LIV Golf said they wanted to destroy the European Tour
Rory McIlroy says LIV Golf told him it aimed to destroy the European Tour, sharpening his long-running criticism of the Saudi-backed circuit. The claim adds fuel to the split between LIV and the traditional golf tours, a dispute that has divided players and reshaped professional golf since LIV launched in 2022.
Why now: McIlroy's accusation reopens the bitter conflict between LIV Golf and established tours at a time when the sport's future structure is still unsettled.
