Sunflowers Surprisingly Grow Toward the Dimmest Light
Original: What Happens When You Shine Three Lights on Sunflowers? The Plants Surprisingly Grow Toward the Dimmest One
A new finding reports that when sunflowers are exposed to three light sources, the plants bend toward the dimmest one rather than the brightest. The result runs counter to the common expectation that plants always grow toward stronger light, and is drawing attention from readers interested in plant biology and the surprising complexities of how sunflowers sense and respond to light.
Why now: The finding contradicts the well-known assumption that plants grow toward the brightest light, making it surprising and shareable.
