Swapping Google apps for open-source Fossify suite on Android
Original: I replaced Google's core apps with the open source Fossify suite for a bloat-free Android setup
A technology writer describes replacing Google's core Android apps—such as Gallery, Messages, Calendar and Keyboard—with the open-source Fossify suite, aiming for a cleaner, less bloated phone with less dependence on Google services. Fossify began as a fork of the discontinued Simple Mobile Tools apps. The writeup highlights privacy benefits and debloating, though it notes some trade-offs in features and integration compared with Google's defaults.
Why now: Growing interest in debloating Android and reducing reliance on Google services drives attention to open-source alternatives
