Canada marks Truth and Reconciliation Day
Canadians are observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, honouring survivors of residential schools and the children who never returned home. Communities held ceremonies, wore orange shirts, and shared reflections on the country's colonial legacy, with calls to move beyond symbolism toward concrete action on Indigenous rights.
Why now: The day falls on September 30, prompting annual nationwide reflection and discussion about reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
