The European Social Association was formally established today, bringing together EU-based organisations working on ethical, European, interoperable, open-source and decentralised social media. The Italian initiative Fedimedia Italia is among the founding participants. Supporters see it as a step toward building alternatives to US-dominated platforms rooted in European values and the fediverse.

Why now: Growing European interest in sovereign, decentralised alternatives to major commercial social media platforms.
