Iraq's elite CTS force detains senior militant suspect in Kirkuk
Original: Iraqi CTS arrests ‘high-value’ militant suspect in disputed Kirkuk
Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service has arrested a 'high-value' militant suspect in Kirkuk, a city whose status remains disputed between Baghdad and the Kurdish region. The operation was reported by regional media, which highlighted the suspect's seniority. Kirkuk has long been a flashpoint for security operations targeting remnants of militant networks, and such raids are closely watched for what they signal about stability in the contested territories.
Why now: Security operations in Kirkuk draw attention because the city is a contested flashpoint between Baghdad and the Kurdistan region
