Teruaki Sato, the Hanshin Tigers third baseman, has entered the posting system, making him eligible to negotiate with Major League Baseball clubs. The move allows MLB teams to bid for the rights to sign the 24-year-old power hitter, who has been one of Nippon Professional Baseball's most productive sluggers. Baseball fans and analysts in both Japan and the US are closely watching which clubs will pursue him.
Why now: A top Japanese star becoming available to MLB teams immediately draws attention from scouts, fans and media on both sides of the Pacific.
