Original: Justice Alito Will Not Retire From Supreme Court Immediately, Despite Election Outcome
Justice Samuel Alito has no plans to step down from the Supreme Court right away, despite the outcome of the election and speculation that he might retire under a favorable political environment. The New York Times reports he intends to remain on the bench for now, keeping his seat ahead of possible changes in the court's composition.
Why now: The election outcome fueled speculation that Alito might retire and be replaced while his allies hold power, so his decision to stay is newsworthy.
