Researchers have produced a map tracking the migration routes of 262 antelopes in South Sudan, according to Mongabay. The mapping documents the movements of one of Africa's large migratory ungulate populations, providing data that could inform conservation planning and land-use decisions in a country where wildlife has been heavily affected by decades of conflict. Observers are highlighting the effort as a significant step for conservation science in a little-studied region.
Why now: South Sudan hosts one of the world's great antelope migrations, and new mapping of these routes draws attention to conservation in a rarely studied region.
