Senator Eric Schmitt is facing political fallout after promoting a narrative about special counsel Jack Smith that has been debunked. Critics say the senator amplified false claims about Smith's prosecutions of Donald Trump, and commentators are pressing him to account for repeating the discredited story as scrutiny of the case intensifies.
