Original: Russia officially threatens NATO with nuclear weapons over Kaliningrad Oblast – Reuters
Russia has issued an official threat to use nuclear weapons against NATO in connection with the Kaliningrad exclave, according to Reuters. The report, carried by Ukrainian outlets, escalates already high tensions between Moscow and the alliance over the heavily militarised Baltic region, which sits between Poland and Lithuania. Officials and analysts are watching closely for how NATO and Western governments respond to the explicit nuclear rhetoric.
Why now: Escalating nuclear rhetoric from Russia raises fears of a direct confrontation with NATO amid the war in Ukraine.
