Original: We fear for our lives after being told our abusive exes will be freed from jail early https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/article
Women who suffered abuse from their ex-partners say they fear for their lives after learning the men convicted against them are to be freed from prison early. The reports describe victims who were notified of imminent early releases and say they were left frightened and inadequately protected. The stories have renewed debate in the UK over prison overcrowding and early release schemes.
Why now: The UK government's early release policy to ease prison overcrowding is putting violent and abusive offenders back on the streets, alarming their victims.
