Attention is on the growing political friendship between Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, described as a remarkable alliance shaking up Nepal's established political forces. Commentators frame it against veteran leaders KP Sharma Oli, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', seeing the pairing as a challenge to the old guard ahead of possible political realignment.
Why now: The unexpected alliance between two popular young leaders is seen as a potential challenge to Nepal's traditional political establishment.
