SDF Public Access Unix System Still Running Since 1987
Original: SDF Public Access Unix System ... est. 1987
SDF, one of the oldest public access Unix systems, is drawing fresh attention online. Established in 1987, it continues to offer free shell accounts, computing resources and a social community to anyone interested, decades after most similar dial-up-era services disappeared. Commenters are revisiting the system as a rare surviving piece of early internet history that remains actively maintained and open to new users today.
Why now: Nostalgia and interest in long-running, independent internet services are putting this veteran Unix system back in the spotlight.
